Generator Performance Standards are more than a compliance document. They define how a generating system is expected to behave, what evidence must be provided and where technical risk sits throughout the connection process.
Start with the connection strategy
A strong GPS pathway begins before detailed modelling. The project team should understand the network context, likely system strength issues, relevant access standards and the interfaces between the OEM, modelling consultant, NSP and AEMO.
Use the standards to drive decisions
Each negotiated standard can affect plant design, controls, equipment selection, model scope and commissioning obligations. Treating the GPS as a late-stage submission creates avoidable redesign and programme risk.
Maintain traceability
Assumptions, model versions, agreed positions and study outcomes should remain traceable across the project. This becomes critical when technical teams change or when the project transitions from application studies into R1 and R2 validation.
